The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET): An In-depth Guide to India's Premier Medical Entrance Examination

Introduction:

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a highly competitive and widely recognized entrance examination in India for admission into undergraduate medical and dental programs. Introduced in 2013 by the Government of India, NEET has become the sole medical entrance examination for admissions to MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) and BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) programs offered by medical and dental colleges across the country. In this comprehensive guide, we will delve into the details of NEET, including its eligibility criteria, exam pattern, preparation strategies, and significance in the field of medical education in India.

Eligibility Criteria for neet :

To appear for NEET, candidates must fulfill the eligibility criteria set by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which is the conducting body for the exam. The key eligibility criteria for NEET are as follows:

2.Academic Qualifications:

Candidates must have completed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects. General category candidates must have scored a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology, while reserved category candidates must have scored a minimum of 40% aggregate marks.

3. Nationality:

Candidates must be Indian citizens or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI). Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), and foreign nationals are also eligible to appear for NEET, subject to certain conditions.

Neet Exam Pattern

The NEET exam pattern and structure underwent several changes in the past two years. While the entire structure changed in the year 2021, the duration was increased by 20 minutes in 2022. It is expected that the NEET 2023 exam pattern will remain the same. Let us take a look at the highlights of the NEET 2023 pattern.

Neet exam structure

There will be three subjects from which questions will be asked, namely, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The Biology subject is further divided between Botany and Zoology. The table below brings the detailed structure of the NEET question paper.

Navigating NEET 2025: Strategies to Minimize Negative Marking The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a highly competitive exam for aspiring medical professionals. Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), it is crucial to secure a good rank to gain admission to prestigious medical colleges in India. One significant factor that can significantly impact your NEET score is negative marking. For every incorrect answer, a portion of the marks allotted to that question is deducted from your total score. Understanding the Impact of Negative Marking Reduced Total Score : Each incorrect answer directly lowers your overall score. Lowered Qualifying Marks : A lower total score might not meet the minimum qualifying marks for various medical colleges. Wasted Potential : Incorrect answers can negate the positive impact of correct ones, diminishing your hard work. Key Strategies to Minimize Negative Marking Thorough Understanding of Concepts: Master the Basics : Ensure a strong fo...

IUPAC NOMENCLATURE part 3

IUPAC NOMENCLATURE part 1 IUPAC NOMENCLATURE  part 2 IUPAC NOMENCLATURE   IUPAC NOMENCLATURE OF ALICYCLIC COMPOUNDS : ( 1 ) The names of alicylic compounds are obtained by adding the prefix "cyclo". (2) The numbering of the carbon atoms in the ring is done in such a way that the substituent which comes first in the alphabetical order is given the lowest possible number provided it does not violate the lowest set of locants rule.  Example : (3)When the ring contains more or equal number of carbon atoms than the alkyl group attached to it, then it is named as a derivative of cycloalkane and the alkyl group is treated as substituent. Example : (4)The alkane chain contains greater number of carbon atoms than present in the ring, the compound is considered as the derivative of alkane and the ring is designated as substituent.  Example : (5)If ring has unsaturation and side chain is saturated then ring is selected as parent chain.  If side chain has unsatura...
